East Coast Senior High Retreat Draws 570 Participants
LAKE CHAMPION, NY (January 9, 2002) - The East Coast Conference hosted its annual Senior High Winter Retreat January 4-6 at Lake Champion, New York, with 570 attending - an increase of 120 people over the previous year.Duffy Robbins, chairperson of the Department of Youth Ministry at Eastern College in St. Davids, Pennsylvania, was the main speaker for the event, which was entitled "Digging Into God." Robbins was a keynote speaker at the 1991 Covenant High in Christ (CHIC) high school conference at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, and wrote a devotional for teens who attended.
Nate Anderson from North Park University's admissions office led one of eight seminars on preparing for college. Meanwhile, Karen Hallberg and Cindy Carl of Covenant Bible College led seminars on Christian discipleship, reported youth pastor Jim Condap of The Covenant Church of Easton, Connecticut.
"Last year was a wonderful, God-filled weekend and this year was the same," Condap said. "The youth pastors and volunteer leaders in the East Coast Conference do a wonderful job of preparing kids for this weekend and they're committed to reaching kids for Christ."
Condap hopes to add spring service and fall leadership retreats as offshoots from what has become the most well attended youth event in the conference. Plans include monthly meetings with youth pastors - the first to come during the annual Youth Connection for Covenant youth pastors in Rosemont, Illinois, next month.
