Connecticut Church Breaks Ground for New Facility

THOMASTON, CT (December 11, 2001) - Sixteen months after fire damaged the previous parsonage of The Covenant Church of Thomaston, the congregation recently participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for a new facility.

Participating in worship and dedication ceremonies was Robert C. Dvorak, superintendent of the East Coast Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

On July 14 last year, a residence adjacent to the church sanctuary burned. No one was in the building at the time of the fire. In recent years the building has also been used for Christian education and other church-related activities.

Pastor Tim Olsen said the new building will be around 6,500 square feet and will be used primarily for Christian education activities. Construction is scheduled to begin this winter with the project expected to be completed in six months. The church hopes to dedicate the building next fall.

The Covenant Church of Thomaston has been in existence since 1890 and is a member congregation of the East Coast Conference. For more information about the church, its ministries and its construction plans, contact Olsen at 860-283-9146.
