Lakeland Overcomes NPU Vikings in Non-league Play

CHICAGO, IL (December 5, 2001) - Jill Dewane scored 28 points as Lakeland College defeated North Park University 43-35 in a non-league women's basketball game played on the Vikings' home court.

Dewane made 12-of-19 field goal attempts to help Lakeland move to 7-1 overall. North Park fell to 4-4 despite 11 points apiece by Andrea Mendyk and Heather Fitzgerald.

Mendyk moved into ninth place on the school's all-time career scoring list with 1,052 points, passing Michelle Hayden (1,045). Teammate Carrie Swenson added six points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots for the Vikings, who travel to Elmhurst Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. match up that opens the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin portion of the schedule.
