Progress Reported on Biwabik Building Project

BIWABIK, MN (November 16, 2001) - The sanctuary wall is finished, the windows are boarded Up, the sheet rock has been delivered and the shingles are on the roof.

A building project at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Biwabik has gained momentum in recent months, giving the church hope that the facility will be available for use next year. The previous church building was destroyed in an arson fire August 23, 1998. The congregation has been worshipping at a local senior center since August 2000.

The church celebrated groundbreaking in May 2000 and a number of churches have aided the building project, which is being constructed on 7.3 acres of land. The building is not yet fully winterized; however, roof shingles have been capped, preventing the possibility of rain damage.

Plastic sheeting is expected to be installed on the building's walls before winter sets in. The heating and plumbing systems are not yet complete, according to Heather Jones, whose husband, Jeffrey, is the pastor. A fund-raising effort to purchase windows and doors is under way. Mission Covenant Church in Poplar, Wisconsin, donated $2,000 in October.

The Evangelical Covenant Church of Biwabik has been blessed by much volunteer assistance from churches and individuals during 2001. The congregation of 60 has received donated sheet rock from Iowa, the use of a crane for two months to help the church put trusses up inside the building and a recent gift of $3,000 from a couple in Michigan.
