CHET Offers Expanded Educational Opportunities
BELL GARDENS, CA (November 13, 2001) - A new bachelor of ministry program for advanced students, three satellite locations for the lay community counseling program and a new course in community transformation and development are part of the growth being experienced
by Centro Hispano de Estudios Teologicos (CHET).
President Jorge Maldonado said that the bachelor of ministry program began in October and has five students. Meanwhile, the community counseling program is being held at CHET and at new satellite locations in Eagle Rock, Simi Valley and Santa Barbara.
Besides the educational advances, the school has been blessed with a year-end matching grant. A total of $10,000 has been pledged in matching funds for gifts to CHET through the end of 2001. This grant is especially important to CHET's annual budget given a general softening in the endowment fund area and the negative economic impact of September 11 terrorist attacks, said
Maldonado.
Pasadena Covenant Church has granted $3,500 for the start of the Edie Warning Student Aid Fund at CHET. Warning originally was a member of First Covenant Church in Los Angeles. First Covenant created an endowment to help CHET begin this ministry. Warning also helped establish the Eldon and Opal Johnson Scholarship, an annual scholarship given to students showing ministry promise.
"Edie was an 'Amiga' of CHET, not only through her faithful giving, but also through her direct
encouragement of individual students, staff and faculty," said Maldonado. "Edie was often seen at
graduation events and special student celebrations, as well as known for her encouraging notes and phone calls . . . she showed that one person can make a difference in the Kingdom of God."
CHET was founded in 1989 and currently has a student enrollment of 250. For more information, call the school at 562-806-8325 or email Maldonado at centrohispano@att.net.
