Loss to Carthage Closes Season for Vikings

KENOSHA, WI (November 12, 2001) - North Park University (NPU) ended its football season Saturday with a 17-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) loss to Carthage College.

The Vikings managed just six first downs in falling to 2-8 overall, 0-7 in the CCIW. Carthage finished its season 6-4 overall, 3-4 in conference play.

NPU trailed 3-0 at halftime and had a chance to take the lead after Quinton Wilks recovered a fumble at the Carthage 35-yard line on the second half kickoff. However, the Vikings managed only one yard in three plays and had to punt. Carthage then drove for a touchdown on its next possession, the home team culminating the drive with a 34-yard scoring pass from Pat Brown to Curt Robinson.

Late in the third period, North Park drove 47 yards in 10 plays, but had its drive end at the Carthage 24. The Vikings had one more legitimate scoring chance with 13:57 remaining as Tim Wisnar intercepted a Carthage pass at the Carthage 44. NPU couldn't get a first down though and when Carthage got the ball back it drove 94 yards on 14 plays in its next possession as Brown's 1-yard touchdown run ended the scoring.

Jackie Wayne had 10 solo tackles and three assists for North Park's defensive unit. NPU quarterback had 52 yards rushing to lead his team, but connected on just 2-of-14 passes for 17 yards.
