Minnesota Journalist Named Head of Press Association

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (November 6, 2001) - Doug Trouten of Trinity Covenant Church in Crystal, Minnesota, has been selected as the next executive director of the Evangelical Press Association (EPA).

Trouten currently serves as assistant professor at Northwestern College in Roseville, Minnesota, and senior editor at Beard Communications. He will assume his new responsibilities on a part-time basis next July 1, succeeding Ron Wilson.

Currently the president of the EPA board, Trouten has been a journalist in Christian media for two decades, both as a writer/editor and radio personality. At Beard Communications, a Christian media group in Colorado and Minnesota, Trouten is senior editor for the Minnesota Christian Chronicle and the Evangelical Press News Service (EP News). Trouten has worked for both the Chronicle and EP News since the mid-1980s. The latter entity provides news stories to more than 200 Christian magazines, newspapers and radio stations.

Trouten received his undergraduate education at St. Paul Bible College (now Crown College) in Minnesota. He earned his Master of Arts in Mass Communication from the University of Minnesota in 1999. He and his wife, Elisabeth, have three children.

"I can't think of anyone more qualified than Doug Trouten to take over this job," said Wilson, EPA's executive director since 1992. "Doug has been more involved in EPA as a volunteer than any other member of the association."

Terry White, a past EPA president who chaired EPA's search committee and founded the Minnesota Christian Chronicle in 1978, said, "I'm delighted that the board chose Doug to continue and expand the excellent work Ron Wilson has done as the EPA executive director. I've known Doug for nearly 25 years - since he was a student in the college where I taught - and I have a high admiration for his drive, the scope of his expertise and for his good judgment. Doug's unquestioned loyalty and deep involvement at every level in EPA operations qualifies him well for this position."

The Evangelical Press Association, currently based in West Virginia, services some 375 periodicals, organizations and individual members. The combined circulation of publications it serves totals 19 million readers. The Covenant Companion is a member/subscriber of EPA.
