Harp, Violin Featured in First of Chamber Series Concerts

CHICAGO, IL (November 2, 2001) - Nationally known musicians Yolanda Kondonassis and Chee-Yun will perform at North Park University as the school of music opens its 21st season of Chamber Music at November 9 at Anderson Chapel on the university campus.

The 7:30 p.m. concert is the first of four events hosted by North Park. Other concerts are scheduled for January 26, March 23 and May 3, 2002.

Kondonassis, a harpist, and Chee-Yun, a violinist, began combining their musical talents in a series of chamber music concerts at the Vail (Colorado) Music Festival in 1998. They now perform in concert venues throughout the United States.

Since his debut with Zubin Mehta and the New York Philharmonic at age 18, Kondonassis has impressed audiences with her musical prowess. She was the first harpist to win the prestigious Ima Hogg National Young Artists Competition, the Nafziger Competition and the Darius Milhaud Prize. She currently heads the harp departments at the Cleveland (Ohio) Institute of Music and the nearby Oberlin College Conservatory.

Chee-Yun has shared her talents with audiences on five continents and her work has been noteworthy since she was eight, when she won the Korean Times Competition. In 1993, she received the Nan Pa Award, Korea's highest musical honor.

Admission for the November 9 concert is $15 general and $10 for seniors, the disabled and non-North Park students. Admission is free for North Park students with identification.
