North Park Athlete Seriously Injured in Crash
DOWNERS GROVE, IL (October 31, 2001) - North Park University football player Eric Pinedo remains in the intensive care unit of a local hospital following an early Sunday morning automobile accident. His condition is listed as improved.Pinedo, a sophomore center from Thornton High School in Harvey, Illinois, was in a car with a friend, Tiffany Robinson, when their car was struck by an eastbound vehicle traveling in the westbound lane on Interstate 88 in Downers Grove at 1:30 a.m. October 28.
Robinson, a volleyball player at North Central College in Naperville, was killed in the crash. Pinedo was in a coma for a brief period after suffering a broken left leg and suffering some eye, hand and head injuries. He is in Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Pinedo's situation remains critical, but promising, according to North Park University dean of students Gary Ireland. "A long recovery is expected," said Ireland. "Please keep Eric, his Mother and the family of Tiffany Robinson in your prayers in the days ahead."
Cards may be sent to Pinedo at Good Samaritan Hospital, 3551 Highland Ave., Downers Grove, IL, 60515. The athletic department is working with the university ministries department at North Park, which recently grieved the loss of basketball players Mark Allen and Reed Larson. A prayer service for all student athletes at North Park is scheduled for Thursday evening at the North Park gymnasium.
