Presidential Scholar Co-Authors Book on 'Epic Life'

By Adria Willett

CHICAGO, IL (October 31, 2001) - Author Matt Kronberg will be on hand at seven o'clock Thursday evening in Nyvall Lounge on the North Park University campus to sign copies of his book Four Souls. Kronberg is a second-year presidential scholar at North Park Theological Seminary.

The book, co-authored by Kronberg, Mike Peterson, Jedd Medefind and Trey Sklar, addresses the question "Is the 'good life' really the best life?" It was published by W Publishing (formerly Word Publishing).

Three years ago, Kronberg was a senior at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, when he decided to take a one-year journey around the world with three friends. Faced with graduation, jobs and graduate school, they were determined to learn what "epic life" is all about. The book describes this life as "the kind of living that would make each day worth waking up for."

The four men also wanted to deepen their relationship with God and share the good news of Jesus Christ with others. They spent a few months in several different countries on four continents working with local Christians.

Kronberg suggests that the epic life eludes North Americans due to a culture strapped by busyness and financial burdens, much of it due to the need to project an image. "It's a trap that sucks us in," he said. Kronberg says he learned the importance of setting his relationship with God and with others as top priorities.

The four "souls" were impacted especially by the joyous hospitality of the Guatemalan Christians, which they encountered on their first stop. "Their goal in life was to love people, said Kronberg, "while ours is to accomplish things."

The book includes anecdotes and vivid descriptions of the story of their trip, along with personal reflections from each of the four on what they learned along the way.

Copies of Four Souls are available at Covenant Bookstore or may be purchased by credit card through the online Covenant Bookstore at www.covchurch.org.
