Michigan Church Marks 50 Years of Ministry
TRAVERSE CITY, MI (October 31, 2001) - Nearly 160 people celebrated the 50th anniversary of West Bay Covenant Church in Traverse City recently. Great Lakes Supt. David S. Dahlberg preached during the worship service.The church hosted a banquet and concert the previous evening that attracted approximately 130 people. The congregation also celebrated completion of a debt reduction campaign - the congregation raised $52,000 to pay off the $50,000 debt, according to pastor Richard Skar.
West Bay Covenant Church began meeting at a local schoolhouse in 1951 as the West Bay Mission. By 1954, the church had purchased property for a chapel and parsonage, renamed itself West Bay Covenant Church and joined the Evangelical Covenant Church. The church averages 128 in worship attendance.
