Michigan Church Dedicates New Building

MANISTEE, MI (October 30, 2001) - Faith Covenant Church dedicated its new 16,000-square-foot building on Sunday with Great Lakes Supt. David S. Dahlberg participating in the Sunday worship service that included approximately 150 in attendance.

Robert Hoey, pastor of Messiah Church in Detroit, Michigan, was a guest speaker for the dedication weekend. He spoke on "Fishing Stories from Peter as He Learned at the Feet of Jesus." Nearly 200 were part of the weekend activities, according to pastor Reynold Samundsen.

Faith Covenant Church was founded in 1882 and had used its previous building for 83 years in a town with a population of 7,000. The previous church site (5,400 square feet) is located one block off a main highway. The church considered expanding there, but instead the 90-member congregation decided to sell the old building and move to a nine-acre site a quarter of a mile away.

Samundsen said the new location is ideal for growth and visibility. He is thankful that the church has been able to unite around this project and is grateful that their hard work has been rewarded.

"It's really exciting to be a part of it all," said Samundsen, who plans to retire in the near future. "We've had a pivotal part of this ministry and I can't say anything more than thanks to the glory of God for the support of the congregation."

About $550,000 was raised for phase one of the current building project and another $376,000 has been loaned by National Covenant Properties. The estimated project cost is about $1.5 million.
