NPU Play Focuses on Palestinian Experience

CHICAGO, IL (October 30, 2001) - The Longing, a play that dramatizes the Palestinian experience from 1948 to the present, will be performed four times at North Park University beginning with an 8 p.m. performance November 9.

Based on oral histories, The Longing is the first full-length play in English that documents the Palestinian catastrophe (al Nakbah) that led to 750,000 Palestinians being forced out of their homes and more than 400 villages being destroyed by Israeli forces.

The play is sponsored by North Park University, the Arts Council of the Arab American Action Network and Not in My Name, a group of American Jews committed to a peaceful and just resolution of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. It is written by Robert Hostetter, North Park professor of communication arts and theater.

Other performances (all at 8 p.m.) are scheduled for November 10, 16 and 17 at North Park's Viking Hall. They are open to the public at $10 for general admission and $5 for students and seniors. For more information, call 773-244-5640.
