New East Coast Associate Superintendent Named
CROMWELL, CT (October 22, 2001) - Judy Swanberg of Plymouth, Minnesota, has accepted the call as associate superintendent of the East Coast Conference, according to a memo to conference pastors by Supt. Robert C. Dvorak. She expects to begin her duties in December.Swanberg has served in a variety of roles for the Northwest Conference during the past four years, leading workshops on pastoral administration, providing crisis support and presenting updates on Sudanese ministries to conference churches. A member of the Northwest Conference Urban Task Force and Executive Board, Swanberg also served as interim associate pastor at Rochester (MN) Covenant Church and taught Old Testament courses in western Ethiopia.
From 1996-97, Swanberg served at First Covenant Church in St. Paul as interim pastor. Since 1993, she has also consulted conference churches in Vision-to-Action, a process used by many Covenant churches to plan future ministries. She was coordinator of Children's Ministries and Educational Resources at Salem Covenant Church in New Brighton, Minnesota, from 1988-91.
Swanberg was a longtime teacher and resource specialist in Illinois and had served as director of Christian education at Broadway Covenant Church in Rockford, Illinois. She received her undergraduate degree from North Park College (now university) in Chicago and her Master of Divinity degree from Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul. She completed orientation studies at North Park Theological Seminary before becoming an ordained Covenant pastor. Her husband, Robert, is a middle school teacher.
A lifelong Covenanter, Swanberg's father is retired minister Selmer Jacobson. She will assume the associate superintendent position that was previously filled by Sandy Anderson.
