New Chicago Church Plans Preview Service

CHICAGO, IL (October 18, 2001) - New Community Covenant Church, a multi-ethnic church plant started by Peter Hong, will have its first preview worship service on Sunday, November 4, at City North 14 General Cinema Theater, 2600 North Western Avenue, in Chicago.

"We had looked at seven or eight places, including schools and churches," said Hong, who had been an associate pastor at Deergrove Covenant Church in Palatine, Illinois, before beginning church planting work. "We just walked on over to the theater and since the first showing is at 1:30 p.m., we have the building from 8:30 a.m. until about 12:30 p.m. Our service is at 10 a.m. It's great. They have a six-story parking lot and the price was a gift from God."

New Community Covenant Church is attempting to integrate Asians, African-Americans, Hispanics and Caucasians into a cohesive congregation, according to Hong who has assembled a leadership team representing the four groups. The church hosted 85 people at a core group worship celebration September 27.

"Even though it's a 20s or 30s something church, we've had some older people check our service out from off the street in Logan Square (a Chicago neighborhood)," Hong said. "It's been unexpected, but it's exciting."

A second preview service is scheduled for December 9. The church plans to begin its regular weekly services in January 2002.

For more information on the church, contact Hong by telephone at 773-991-2327 or by email at petershong@juno.com.
