Triple Espresso in Milwaukee Until November 4
MILWAUKEE, WI (October 16, 2001) - One of the best-known and most visible Covenant performing artists in North America, Bob Stromberg, will be at Milwaukee's Marcus Center until November 4 as part of Triple Espresso, a comedy that has been presented throughout the United States since 1995.
Those in the Milwaukee and greater Chicago areas will recognize him from decades earlier - he was a regular speaker and performer at Covenant Harbor Bible Camp in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Others know him from North Park University (then college), where he received his undergraduate education. Still more may have heard him sing at CHIC events, where he has been a singer or speaker since the mid-1970s. Stromberg was a keynote speaker in Knoxville, Tennessee, as part of CHIC2K in July 2000.
Stromberg grew up in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, where he attended the Evangelical Covenant Church. His talents in mime, song, speaking and acting have been used in a variety of ways for denominational events such as the Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church and numerous conference camp activities.
Seven years ago Stromberg met with two Twin Cities acquaintances, Michael Pearce Donley and Bill Arnold, and brainstormed ideas for a production that would incorporate the trio's varied talents. The result? Triple Espresso is now a Minneapolis-based corporation employing 28 people and 20 actors, with annual sales of $3.7 million.
Triple Espresso documents the relationship of three performers who reunite after a bitter breakup. They recount their careers in the two-hour show as Stromberg uses skills and routines honed from years of camp engagements and school assemblies. Meanwhile, Pearce Donley (a
musician) and Arnold (a comedian/magician) showcase their talents. There is no inappropriate language and there is humor for all ages, appealing to a diverse audience of young and old. More than 1,800 performances attest to the fact that people like what they see.
In the early days, performances were offered only in the Twin Cities. Since that time, the production has enjoyed huge success in cities like San Diego, California, (where they have had a continuing show for four years). Besides San Diego and Milwaukee, Triple Espresso is running at the Music Box Theater in Minneapolis. Approximately 67,000 people visit those performances each year.
Tickets for Triple Espresso in Milwaukee are $35 per person. The event is at Vogel Hall in the Marcus Center, 123 E. State Street, with shows every night except Mondays, and matinees on Saturdays and Sundays until November 4. To purchase tickets, call 414-276-4545. The Minneapolis performance tickets are priced from $29.50 to $34.50 and can be purchased by calling 612-673-0404.
