Mound (MN) Church Celebrates 100 Years
MOUND, MN (October 11, 2001) - More than 80 attended the 100th anniversary worship service Sunday at Fairview Covenant Church in Mound. Paul Erickson, superintendent of the Northwest Conference, delivered the morning message.On October 6, the congregation hosted an ice cream social, which included a carriage ride and hymn sing. The church hosted a dinner and a play October 5 created by member Marnie Peterson, who wrote a historical look at Fairview Covenant using vignettes to highlight key personalities and events. More than 100 attended the dinner. Fairview Covenant, which was founded May 25, 1901, had kicked off centennial celebration events with a service of renewal January 21 and an outdoor worship service and picnic July 15.
Fairview Covenant Church is located in Mound, a bedroom community with a population of 10,000 located 20 miles west of Minneapolis. Dennis Pool is the senior pastor at the church, which has an average worship attendance of 30. An itinerant preacher named Erik August Skogsbergh was a catalyst behind the founding of Fairview Covenant, according to associate pastor Liz Jensen. Emil Larson was the congregation's first pastor.
"It was a grand slam," said Dallas Jensen, one of the committee members for the celebration weekend. "You couldn't have had more of a successful event. It was a moving experience."
