Vikings Basketball Team Earns Academic Honors

CHICAGO, IL (October 5, 2001) - The North Park University (NPU) womens basketball team was recently recognized by the Womens Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for ranking 13th among all NCAA Division III schools with a team grade point average of 3.413.

The WBCA honors the nation's highest NCAA Division I, II and III Junior/Community College and NAIA team grade point averages for academic efforts during the 2000-2001 season. It is the second year that NPU's women's basketball program has been honored by the WBCA, which was founded in 1981 to help promote girls and womens basketball.

The Vikings team grade point average of 3.384 earned them a slot as number 20 in the nation for the 1999-2000 season. The WBCA 2001 Academic Top-25 Honor Roll is based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches.

North Park returns four starters from last year's 12-12 team, including first-team All-Conference player Andrea Mendyk, Carrie Swenson, Amy Stoltz and Heather Fitzgerald.
