Swedish Choir Tour Includes Covenant Offices

CHICAGO, IL (October 3, 2001) - A choral group from the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden learned much about the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) during a recent to the offices of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Palmberg The two dozen choir members met for nearly an hour with President Glenn R. Palmberg and Executive Vice President Donn Engebretson. They met other administrators and staff during a tour of the offices before heading to Covenant Home for a concert. They performed at a number of Covenant churches and other institutions during their September 23-30 visit to the United States.

A total of 27 ministers and deacons from the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden were scheduled to sing in the United States, but some decided to remain in Sweden following the terrorist assaults September 11. Members of the group were interested in learning how churches in North America - and the Covenant denomination in particular - have responded in the aftermath of that tragedy. Another area of interest is the Covenant's support of women in ministry.

Choir tour leader Per-Inge Liden presented Palmberg with a handmade linen table runner (see accompanying photo) before the group departed.

Anna Skagersten served as the choral conductor for the Swedish choir. Eva Cudmore of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Princeton, Illinois, was the group's liaison during their stay in the United States. The choir is one of two Swedish groups scheduled to visit the United States this fall. A group of ordained ministers and deacons will spend time at North Park University as part of a group study project October 20-27.
