Midwinter 2002 Program Information Mailed to Churches
CHICAGO, IL (October 1, 2001) - Program information has been mailed to churches as pastors and other church leaders prepare for the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) 2002 Midwinter Conference February 4-8 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont. A brochure containing registration forms is tentatively scheduled to be mailed in November.
Some of the most sought after speakers in North America are in the lineup for this year's event. Clive Calver, president of World Relief of Baltimore, Maryland, will preach at the opening worship service February 4. Evangelist Leighton Ford will lead plenary sessions and preach at the evening worship service February 7.
Brenda Salter McNeil, co-founder and president of the Chicago-based Overflow Ministries will preach at the February 5 evening worship service. Os Guinness, senior fellow of the Trinity Forum leadership academy in McLean, Virginia, will speak at the closing breakfast February 8.
Calver is chief spokesperson for World Relief's work in disaster relief, assistance to the poor and refugee resettlement. World Relief, the humanitarian arm of the National Association of Evangelicals, was founded in 1944 and serves more than 23 countries.
Ford, who heads Leighton Ford Ministries in Charlotte, North Carolina, has authored 10 books and addressed millions of people in more than 40 countries. He spoke at the 2001 Carl G. Westerdahl Lectures at North Park Theological Seminary. Before founding Leighton Ford Ministries, he served as vice president at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, an organization he has supported for 31 years.
Salter McNeil co-founded Overflow Ministries with her husband, Dr. J. Derek McNeil, a therapist. She has 15 years of experience in her role and an impressive academic record as well. She earned a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.
Guinness serves a nonprofit organization started in 1991 that taps into senior-level leaders in various fields and brings them together in leadership forums to focus on specific issues. Trinity Forum seeks to contribute to the transformation and renewal of society through the transformation and renewal of its leaders.
The Midwinter Conference will also include three morning Bible studies led by David Nystrom, professor of New Testament at North Park University in Chicago. Nystrom also serves as a staff associate for biblical literacy for ECC's Department of Christian Formation.
Midweek workshops will include seminars led or co-led by ECC President Glenn R. Palmberg, Vice President of Administration Mary Miller and three executive ministers, including Doreen
Olson, Christian Formation; Gary Walter, Church Growth and Evangelism; and Jim Gustafson, Department of World Mission. John Phelan Jr., president and dean of North Park Theological Seminary, and former ECC president Paul E. Larsen also will serve as seminar leaders.
General individual registration fees are $299 if remitted by December 14 and $335 thereafter. Additional individuals from the same church can be registered at the same time for $210 if remitted by December 14, or $249 if the group registration is sent after December 14. Special rates of $115 and $155 are available for retired pastors, retired staff ministers, retired missionaries, spouses of current pastors, NPTS students and interns and non-NPTS seminary students holding a theological student license issued by the ECC.
In addition to 2002 Midwinter activities, a pair of pre-Midwinter events are scheduled. The YWC/CAMC Connection 2002 will be held February 2-4 and will include Youth, Children and Adult Ministry workers. General registration is $119 for those registering by December 14 and $139 thereafter. A Church Planters Connection is scheduled for February 3-4, although registration fees have yet to be announced.
