Vikings Place Second in Volleyball Tournament
WHEATON, IL (October 1, 2001) - Despite 10 kills from Brigit Clemen, North Park University lost 30-22, 30-26, 30-20 to Wheaton College in the championship of the Wheaton College Invitational Saturday at King Arena.
It was the second time that the Vikings (8-10) have placed second in a tournament. They were also second at Augustana in mid September.
Clemen, the lone North Park representative on the All Tourney team, had 10 or more kills in all five tourney matches last weekend. She and Andrea Mendyk had 16 kills apiece in a five-game tourney opening loss to Trinity International. Tanya Yaskoff and Clemen added 14 kills apiece in
a victory over Goshen (IN) Friday and Clemen totaled 14 in a four-game victory over Carthage Saturday. The Vikings will host North Central College tonight in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match at 7:30 p.m.
In other North Park athletics action last weekend:
- The football squad dropped a 37-0 CCIW decision Saturday to visiting Illinois Wesleyan University, totaling just 39 yards of offense. Tim Wisnar had a hand in 14 tackles, Alfredo Cruz contributed to 11 tackles and Ernest Sherman and Erik Haas racked up two sacks each for a busy
Vikings defense. North Park hosts Elmhurst College at 1 p.m. Saturday in its Homecoming game.
- In non-league soccer matches Sunday, North Park's men lost 3-2 to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater while the women were edged 2-1 by the Warhawks at UW-Whitewater. The men's team, now 3-6, hosts CCIW foe Carthage at 4 p.m. Wednesday and plays its Homecoming match Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Illinois Wesleyan. The 2-7 women's squad hosts Carthage today at 4 p.m. and faces Illinois Wesleyan at home Saturday at noon.
