Lund Lectures on Bible History Set for September 25
CHICAGO, IL (September 21, 2001) - Dr. Iain Provan of Regent College of Vancouver, British Columbia, will present two lectures on Bible history as part of North Park Theological Seminary's Nils W. Lund Lectureship September 25.The lectures, which are free and open to the public, will be presented at Isaacson Chapel on the campus of North Park's campus.
Provan, Marshall Sheppard Professor of Biblical Studies at Regent, will speak on "The Death of Biblical History? - A Critical Review" at 9 a.m. His second lecture, "Knowing and Believing: Faith in the Past," begins at 10:45 a.m. Provan was senior lecturer in the Department of Hebrew and Old Testament Studies at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
On September 27, Dr. Graham Stanton of Cambridge University Kings College in England will speak on "The Term 'Gospel' in Earliest Christianity" and "Does Christian Theology Need Quests for the Historical Jesus?" The sessions are also scheduled for 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. respectively.
Stanton is Lady Margaret's Professor of Divinity at Kings College, having served three years. Before that, he spent 21 years as chair of New Testament Studies at King's College in the University of London.
The Lund Lectureship is funded by the Lund Memorial Scholarship, founded by Hugo A. Anderson in 1960 in memory of Nils W. Lund. Lund was dean and biblical scholar at the seminary from 1922-1954.
