Alaska Christian College is Formally Dedicated
SOLDOTNA, AK (September 19, 2001) - More than 200 people attended an evening dedication service for newly formed Alaska Christian College (ACC) Sunday. Sharing in the keynote address were President Keith Hamilton and Curtis Ivanoff, director of Covenant Youth of Alaska and an instructor at ACC.
Paul Wilson, field director for the Evangelical Covenant Church of Alaska (ECCAK), led the morning worship service earlier in the day. Rev. Neil Josephson, president of Covenant Bible College in Strathmore, Alberta, was to be the guest speaker for the dedication, but was unable to attend due to airline flight cancellations following the terrorist acts last week.
"A year ago, ACC had no faculty, no facility, no money and no students," Wilson said. "We believed God was compelling us to step forward and we did. Now ACC has a wonderful team of faculty and staff, a beautiful 10-plus-acre campus, the bills are paid and there is a wonderful student body comprised of 12 ethnic groups. The diversity of the students in the beauty of our Alaska setting, not to mention the great fishing nearby, is about as close to heaven as you can get."
Faculty is in place with an enrollment of 22 students. Some construction work remains to be completed, according to ECCAK staff. Makeshift student housing is available until work on dormitory construction is finished. It is estimated that approximately $22,000 worth of renovation work remains.
