Candidates Sought for Presidency of Covenant Benevolence
CHICAGO, IL (September 18, 2001) - A search is under way for a new president and chief executive officer of Covenant Ministries of Benevolence (CMB) to replace retiring President Paul V. Peterson. The position will be available September 1, 2002.Covenant Ministries of Benevolence is affiliated with the Evangelical Covenant Church and serves more than 5,000 residents in 16 retirement communities in nine states. It also provides management leadership to two hospitals (Illinois and California) that each year admit more than 21,000 patients and handle more than 60,000 emergency room visits.
CMB provides wellness facilities and programs serving more than 4,500 members; provides management leadership to three enabling residences (Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota) for adults with developmental disabilities, a children's home and counselling services for victims of domestic violence; and works with local churches nationally in the development of ministries of compassion, mercy and justice.
The president/CEO is responsible for the strategic leadership of these ministries and for achieving financial performance to ensure the long-range financial integrity of CMB and each of its subsidiary/affiliated organizations, according to Marlene Soderstrom, CMB board chair. This responsibility includes overseeing assets of approximately $850 million, a pension fund with a market value of approximately $175 million, investment portfolios totaling approximately $210 million and a medical/dental insurance program covering more than 3,500 employees. The president/CEO is based in Chicago and travels extensively in the United States.
The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with an active Christian faith, will possess the ability to lead a complex organization and will have a demonstrated ability to work with people. The president/CEO must be a member of a local Covenant church at the time of hire and remain a member while in office. Desirable qualifications include a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Evangelical Covenant Church, experience in leading a complex human services organization and a background in the field of health care (knowledge or experience).
