North Park Vikings Victorious Over Concordia
CHICAGO, IL - (September 18, 2001) - Dante Britten rushed for 180 yards on 18 carries and scored twice as North Park University (NPU) improved to 2-1 with a 35-17 non-league football victory over Concordia University at Hedstrand Field Saturday.Britten helped the Vikings rush for 311 yards as a team on 49 carries. He had scoring runs of 12 and 8 yards. George Balentine ran for 63 yards and Don Sanford had 35 while each rushing for a touchdown as the Vikings won their second straight game.
Trailing 3-0, NPU scored twice in 22 seconds during the first period to take the lead for good. After Balentine scored from a yard out with 1:19 left in the opening quarter, the Vikings defense stopped Concordia on its next possession as Jackie Wayne recovered a fumble.
On NPU's next offensive play, Chris Oquendo caught a 25-yard scoring pass from Phil Dewald to give the Vikings a 14-3 edge with 57 seconds left in the period. Oquendo caught seven passes for 108 yards during the contest.
NPU has a bye week before opening College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play with a 1 p.m. home contest against Illinois Wesleyan September 29.
