Covenant Ministers Chorus Heads for European Tour
CHICAGO, IL (September 18, 2001) - The majority of members of the Covenant Ministers Chorus were scheduled to leave O'Hare International Airport yesterday for a concert tour of several European countries.Other members were scheduled to depart at different times, with the group ultimately gathering in Begen, Norway, where the concert tour will begin. Concerts are scheduled in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Germany.
Royce Eckhardt, who has been preparing the tour for more than two years, directs the 26-member chorus.
"We intend to bring greetings from President Glenn Palmberg and from Covenant churches and pastors across North America," said Robert McNaughton, chorus president. "In addition to establishing new friendships and affirming old ones, the group will strengthen our sense of unity with Christians abroad and proclaim the Good News through music and personal relationships."
Terrorist events last week required last-minute changes in plans, including rescheduling of flights. Some chorus members had been scheduled to depart last Tuesday, September 11, the day of the terrorist assaults. Others were scheduled to leave last Thursday and over the weekend.
Eckhardt has prepared additional songs for presentation by the chorus in light of last week's events. "We want to especially give witness to our faith and our unity with others around the world at this time," McNaughton said.
