Taiwan Church Donates $5,000 to Covenant World Relief
CHICAGO, IL (September 15, 2001) - In what may be the first gift to Covenant World Relief's terrorism relief fund, the Taiwan Covenant Church has donated $5,000 to aid relief efforts in the aftermath of Tuesday's terrorist attacks in the United States."Rev. John Lin, chairman of the Taiwan Covenant Church, called . . . to say that the Taiwan Covenant Church will give $5,000 in relief aid to the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC)," said David Dolan, who along with his wife, Judy, serve as regional coordinators for ethnic Chinese for ECC's Department of World Mission. "He also assured us of their prayers. We thank God for this outpouring of love."
The gift is also meaningful as it reflects the growing partnership between the Taiwan church and the ECC, said Jim Gustafson, executive minister of World Mission. "Taiwan is a fellowship of Covenant churches," Gustafson explained. "The past three years we have worked closely together to plant new churches throughout Asia. There is as growing sense of partnership in ministry," he added.
"It's the heart behind the gift that is perhaps even more significant than the amount," Gustafson said, quickly adding that such a large gift will be significant in the impact it will have on the relief effort.
Covenant World Relief is working closely with World Relief International and other relief partners to identify needs and set priorities, according to Jim Sundholm, Covenant World Relief director. President Glenn Palmberg has assured that every penny of donated terrorism relief money will go directly to those in need.
Those interested in contributing to the relief fund should make gifts to Covenant World Relief, earmarking the gift for the terrorism relief fund. Gifts should be sent to Covenant World Relief, 5101 N. Francisco Avenue, Chicago, IL, 60625.
