Alaska College in Desperate Need of Volunteers
SOLDOTNA, AK (September 5, 2001) - Students are enrolled and staff is in place for the first term at Alaska Christian College, but volunteer help is desperately needed to complete work on the facility, according to President Keith Hamilton.
The new college will be dedicated September 16. The day's activities will begin with a 10 a.m. worship service, led by pastor Paul Wilson, field director for the Evangelical Covenant Church of Alaska. A 5 p.m. dinner will be followed by a 6:30 p.m. service of dedication with Neil Josephson, president of Covenant Bible College in Strathmore, Alberta, as the guest speaker.
Workers are needed to complete plumbing, electrical, sheet rock and carpentry projects, as well as assist with painting and floor installation. Lodging and meals for volunteers will be provided by the college - volunteers must provide their own transportation to Soldotna. All work must be completed during the next two-month period, Hamilton said.
"We began last November with no faculty, finances, facility or freshman," Hamilton said in recounting the college's development. "Praise God that 10 months later we are fully staffed with faculty. We have received a grant to help us support three of our staff for three years for which we are very grateful." The college also needs a volunteer administrative assistant and volunteer cook.
Those desiring to volunteer should contact Hamilton by telephone at the college office, 907-260-7422, or by email at KJHAMILTON@aol.com. Volunteers also may contact Barbara Johnson in the Department of World Mission (Chicago) by email at barbara.johnson@covchurch.org. For more information on the dedication services, call the college office.
