Palmberg Issues a Call to Prayer

CHICAGO, IL (September 11, 2001) - A call to prayer throughout the Evangelical Covenant Church was issued today by President Glenn R. Palmberg in the aftermath of what many now believe were terrorist acts in various locations in the United States.

"The events of today represent a tragedy of proportions we have not experienced before in this country," Palmberg said. "The extent of the loss of life is unclear at this time, but obviously it will be enormous. The pain and sorrow will be shared by thousands of people who will have experienced the loss of friends and family members.

"The rest of us will be remembering all of those who have been directly affected by this tragedy," Palmberg continued. The president assembled staff members from Covenant administrative offices at 10:30 this morning for a time of prayer. Similar prayer sessions were reported in other Covenant institutions along the larger Chicago campus, scenes undoubtedly repeated in many areas of the country.

Regular news updates on Covenant-related efforts and information on the impact of this tragedy on Covenanters will be posted throughout the day.
