Arrests Made in Shooting of Batavia Church Chairman
ST. CHARLES, IL (August 27, 2001) - Two teens were arrested and arraigned this past weekend in the August 13 shooting of Batavia Covenant Church Chairman Thomas Wright. They were charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, home invasion and aggravated battery with a firearm, according to a Daily Herald news report.Wright was shot four times after two intruders broke into the family's St. Charles home the evening following the tragic death of Wright's teenage son, Christopher. Police believe the intruders were looking for money. Kane County Sheriff Ken Ramsey said information developed during the investigation, along with a tip received after a reward was offered, led to the arrests.
Wright is chief operating officer for Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva. He underwent 12 hours of reconstructive surgery last Thursday and is out of intensive care at an Elgin hospital. He is to begin rehabilitation this week. Wright's church is praying for pain management, physical comfort, sleep, wholeness of the family, healing of memories and for the families of the boys arrested last weekend.
