Worldwide Adventure Awaits the Little Horse Named Joey

TWIG, MN (August 24, 2001) - There's a story in the New Testament about a poor widow who is honored by Jesus because she put two small copper coins in the offering plate.

If a little boy in the community of Twig had lived 2,000 years ago, it is quite likely that his gift would have given Jesus pleasure as well. A grade school boy named Skylar gave a small silver horse to the New Life Covenant Church Vacation Bible School (VBS). His hope was that it would be sent to a youth program in Puebla, Mexico, and provide children there with as much joy as he has experienced in playing with the little figurine.

Never did Skylar dream that his little horse would embark on a worldwide adventure that will take it to places most of the rest of us have never seen. His selfless act in giving the horse so touched the hearts of others that it was decided his gift could have an even larger impact.

The Department of World Mission has launched a special fund-raising project centered on the little horse, who has been given the name Joey. Elsewhere on this Covenant home page visitors will see a link to the Joey project, which explains in greater detail just how this special project will work. It provides an opportunity for children to participate in World Mission activities in a manner that encourages good stewardship and compassion.

Joey will first go to Mexico, and from there to three other regions served by the Department of World Mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The full story of Skylar's gift will be found in storybook form in the link elsewhere on the home page and is a "must-read" for those interested in a heartwarming account of one lad's heart for mission.
