Home Extensively Damaged by Lightning Strike

CHICAGO, IL (August 24, 2001) - Damage is reported as extensive to the home of North Park Theological Seminary (NPTS) Prof. Richard Carlson and his wife, North Park Covenant Church Associate Pastor Jolene Bergstrom-Carlson, after lightning struck the three-story residence Wednesday evening.

The outside walls of the Oak Park, Illinois, structure are reported as stable, but the interior floors were virtually destroyed. Water used to fight the resulting fire contributed to the damage throughout the home.

The seminary has assisted in arranging temporary housing. The Carlsons said they will value the prayers of concerned friends and colleagues as they not only work through the housing challenge, but also as Richard begins the fall term of seminary classes on Monday.

For more information about the loss or ways in which the church and seminary communities plan to help the couple, call North Park Covenant Church at 773-463-0055.
