Ocean Hills Group Assists in Spanish Youth Outreach

LA CORUNA, SPAIN (August 15, 2001) - One church in Spain has a new name and two churches in that country have renewed energy for ministry, thanks to recent events that brought area residents to Christ.

La Coruna Classroom Pastor Roberto Reed's newly named "Vida Nueva" (New Life Evangelical Church) finished a citywide outdoor campaign sponsored by the evangelical churches of La Coruna. Besides those that came to faith, Reed was encouraged by the unified efforts of local congregations and the opportunities to witness to the community.

The church plans to form a few cell groups that will begin meeting in coming months, Reed reported. A recent worship service in a local hotel provided another opportunity for witness in an area not normally brimming with the gospel message. An accompanying pair of photos capture some of the joy of the La Coruna experience.

In Malaga, Spain, Covenant missionary pastor Eugenio Restrepo reported that Parque Victoria Church hosted "Kemate por Jesus," a series of volleyball tournaments and evening Christian concerts that energized his community. A total of 13 people from Ocean Hills Covenant Church in Santa Barbara, California, including senior pastor Chuck Wysong and youth pastor Matt Mills, were part of the evangelistic effort.

La Coruna Volunteers Four nights of youth events at a local plaza helped set the energetic tone of the 10-day event. Spanish worship choruses and dancing, along with Christian music in English, attracted many to the concerts.

"Pizza, hamburgers, sun, burned teenagers, music, volleyball, paella, deep devotionals, worship time, personal evangelism and fun made a very special week for us and our youth leaders and more than 15 volunteers," said Restrepo of the event that brought 50 young lives closer to Jesus.

"In the morning we had devotions and workshops on how to share our faith and testimony to others," Restrepo said. "Dozens of young people attended our church and got tee-shirts that Ocean Hills donated - we distributed 150 among people in our town with the logo Burn for Jesus! K2J. Kemate por Jesus 2001!
