Covenant Pastor and Hymn Writer Honored

OAKLAND, CA (August 12, 2001) - The life and ministry of Bryan Jeffery Leech, Covenant pastor and hymn writer, were recently celebrated at First Covenant Church in Oakland on the occasion of Leech's 70th birthday.

In addition to an evening of public tributes and choral music, David Leestma, minister of music at First Covenant, presented Bryan with a CD produced in honor of his birthday containing performances of 17 of Leech's compositions. The British-born clergyman has been host of a nationally syndicated radio broadcast for more than two decades and currently serves as associate pastor of congregational life at the church.

Leech has written lyrics that are not only part of Covenant hymnology, but also are sung by congregations in a number of denominations. His more popular hymns include This Is a Time to Remember, Kind and Merciful God, The Hiding Place, Come Share the Lord, Your Cause Be Mine and We Are God's People.
