North Carolina Church to Dedicate Facility on Sunday
CHARLOTTE, NC (August 9, 2001) - Crown of Glory Covenant Church will dedicate its new facility on Sunday (August 12) with Southeast Conference Supt. Kurt Miericke preaching at the
morning worship service.
Crown of Glory Covenant, which has been in existence for 10 years, has been meeting at a local school the past six years. The congregation will move into a nearby shopping center in November, according to pastor Terry Pagoota. The new facility includes nearly 4,000 square feet of space and will house a worship center, community outreach center and a multi-purpose room. The congregation averages 80 in attendance, including approximately two dozen children and teens.
"We have been traveling into other areas to find churches where they can be youth friendly," said Pagoota. "A lot of children in the teen age range don't have a lot of places they can go where it doesn't cost a lot, and a lot of kids can't drive." Pagoota noted that many churches use their facilities on Friday and Saturday nights for teen activities with kids paying from $3 to $4 each to help support the programs. "To help facilitate that, we'll be starting a youth praise band that will play contemporary Christian music. We're also trying to coordinate with other church youth groups."
A number of community outreach efforts are being considered or are already under way. A large mobile home park located near the shopping center provides one key opportunity, as does development of a viable ministry to single mothers. An all-day seminar for single mothers is being planned for the winter months. The pastor also writes a weekly column for a local newspaper, The Mint Hill Post.
