Village of Cromwell Expansion Welcomes 78 New Residents
CROMWELL, CT (August 1, 2001) - Following the ceremonial July 18 dedication and grand opening of a three-story building and 28 patio homes, 78 new residents are moving into Covenant Village of Cromwell, bringing the population of the continuing care retirement community to almost 400, a 24 per cent increase.Patio homes are a new lifestyle option on the 34-acre campus. Built as duplex or triplex residences on the community's south side, the two-bedroom, two-bath, single-story homes have up to 1,592 square feet of living space and include an attached garage.
Fourteen new one and two-bedroom independent living apartments occupy a portion of the three-story building called Pineview, which along with the patio homes was built at a cost of $13 million over an 18-month period. Because the remainder of Pineview is a new assisted living residence, the dedication provided an opportunity for 50 village residents who need assistance with activities of daily living to move into brand new apartments.
The assisted living residence replaces a 1964-vintage building that will be razed. Apartments in the new building are more than twice the size of those vacated. The new studio, one and two-bedroom apartments feature galley-style kitchenettes and handicapped-accessible baths.
Additional amenities available to assisted living residents in Pineview include a wellness center outfitted with exercise equipment, an expansive recreation room complete with kitchen and adjacent 11-by-19-foot deck, and a cheery dining room that overlooks the campus.
Pineview also houses the Terrace Café coffee shop, a private dining room that residents may use to entertain, as well as gathering areas and administrative offices.
"These new buildings are more than an expansion of our campus," noted Campus Administrator Burton P. Johnson. "They bring a variety of new services to our residents, enhancing both the nature and the quality of the retirement lifestyle we provide."
Covenant Village of Cromwell is one of 15 not-for-profit retirement communities administered by Chicago-based Covenant Retirement Communities on behalf of the Board of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
