Great Lakes Village Opens Memory Limitation Residence
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (June 22, 2001) - Expanding the services offered on its 30-acre campus, Covenant Village of the Great Lakes recently opened a 19-bed assisted living residence for those with dementia or other memory limitations.
The residence is located on the first floor of the 82-unit assisted living center. Offering a selection of studio and one-bedroom apartments, the unit was designed to foster residents' independence and encourage social interaction while reducing the anxiety frequently associated with dementia. An open plan in common areas provides reassurance while encouraging sociability. Independent access to a secure landscaped courtyard offers opportunities for exploration.
Staffed around the clock by those specially trained in the care most effective for residents with memory impairment, the residence offers an activity-based program that enhances residents' quality of life and enables them to maximize their abilities in a comfortable social setting. Services include assistance with activities of daily living such as medication management, bathing, grooming, dressing and light housekeeping.
Three meals are served daily in the center's dining room. All utilities and local phone service are included, as are housekeeping, laundry and linen services.
With its assisted living residence fully operational, Covenant Village of the Great Lakes plans to construct an independent living complex of 166 apartments. The community is accepting apartment reservations while planning development.
