Biking Teens Nearing Completion of Journey
MOBILE, AL (June 26, 2001) - The trek through the Lone Star state has been completed and three high school students are just days away from finishing a one-month bike trip across the United States.
Karl Brorson, Peter Frost and Dan Fernandes have traveled through Texas and Louisiana and are nearly through Alabama, traveling much faster than originally anticipated, according to Barbara Frost, Peter's mother. The boys, who have ridden more than 2,000 miles, are one week ahead of schedule. They plan to finish their trip June 30 in Brunswick, Georgia, at nearby St. Simon's Island.
Brorson, Frost and Fernandes attended Wheaton Academy in Wheaton, Illinois, during the past school year. Frost, of Faith Covenant Church in Wheaton, will attend Wheaton College in the fall. He and Fernandes recently graduated from high school. Brorson, who attends Naperville Covenant Church, just finished his sophomore year.
On Monday the three found housing in Mobile - a local pastor invited them to dinner and an evening of fun. "It has been night after night of provision," said Barbara Frost of the trip. "The boys have really been blessed."
The trio stayed in a Christian shelter during one stop in Texas, a state that comprised one third of the journey. The parents of Fernandes flew down to see the students in Austin, Texas, and they enjoyed a feast courtesy of a family in a nearby town. In Louisiana, host families in two towns didn't have room in their homes, but paid for the boys to stay in local hotels.
The teens are especially asking for prayer for God to give them the stamina to finish the journey.
