Omaha Covenanter Honored for Teaching

OMAHA, NE (June 14, 2001) - Pam Williams of First Covenant Church in Omaha received an Alice Buffett Outstanding Teacher Award for her work in Omaha public schools.

Williams, a third grade teacher at Benson West Elementary School, was one of 15 teachers receiving an award, which comes with a $10,000 check and $500 in McDonalds gift certificates. "It's a great experience and we certainly can use the money," Williams said. "My kids were also very excited about the McDonalds coupons. But more than that, it was a wonderful way to end the school year."

The Alice Buffett Outstanding Teacher Award is named for Alice Buffett, the aunt of well-known investor Warren Buffett. Alice Buffett had been a teacher for the Omaha Public Schools. Williams has taught for 18 years in Omaha and is expecting her fourth child in September. Husband Kevin also teaches in the Omaha public schools system, serving as an instructional facilitator following two decades of classroom teaching.
