Son Replaces Father as Minnehaha Boys Soccer Coach
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (June 12, 2001) - Like father, like son.
Alex Kauls has been named head boys soccer coach at Minnehaha Academy, replacing his father, Guido, who won 499 games as a high school soccer coach for the school. A social studies teacher at Richfield High School, Kauls earned All-State honors during his prep soccer career at Minnehaha Academy under his father's coaching before playing at Drake University and North Park University (then college). Previously a junior varsity coach for the Richfield High and Minnehaha High soccer teams, the younger Kauls inherits a program that has become one of the
most respected in the state of Minnesota.
Guido Kauls, who has been at Minnehaha 40 years as a German teacher and coach, produced a 499-275-75 record for the Redhawks in combined girls and boys soccer. He is a member of the Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame. He earned Coach of the Year honors in Minnesota in 1981 when the boys team was the state runner-up. That's the highest Minnehaha has finished in soccer under Kauls, although three other teams won sectional titles. Last year's team was 11-7-2 and made the
sectional playoffs.
Minnehaha Academy is a school supported by the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The school, which finished third in Minnesota in its girls basketball
division last winter, is in the midst of an extensive building program that includes a new chapel and gymnasium. For more information on the school or its athletic programs, contact athletic director Ken Anderson at 612-729-8321 or public relations director Don Johnson at 952-937-2989.
