First Covenant Church Plant Under Way in Hawaii
HONOLULU, HI (May 31, 2001) - Pacific Southwest Conference (PSWC) representatives were on hand on Mother's Day as 125 adults gathered for the "birthing" of Wellspring Covenant Church, a new church plant in Honolulu.This marks the first time a Hawaii congregation has been integrated into the Evangelical Covenant Church. The Executive Board of the denomination has assigned Hawaii churches to the PSWC, according to conference Supt. Evelyn M.R. Johnson.
The staff and friends of Wellspring Covenant Church have been meeting quietly for the past several months for small group studies and worship. The congregation of adults gathered at Maunawili Elementary School for the first preview service. Randy Furishima, Dale Vallejo-Sanderson, Mary Ann Azada and Gerald Chinen comprise the pastoral staff at Wellspring Covenant, which will continue with preview services until it meets weekly for worship beginning September 9.
