North Park Theological Seminary Awards 28 Degrees

CHICAGO, IL (May 29, 2001) - Sarah Eix of North Park Covenant Church in Chicago was presented the Ahnfeldt Medallion for the highest grade-point average during recent graduation ceremonies for North Park Theological Seminary at North Park's Anderson Chapel.

It was the second time Eix, a native of Rockford, Illinois, had earned an Ahnfeldt award at North Park. In 1992, the first year the award was given, Eix had the highest grade point average at North Park University (then college) while Alison Wiens had earned the seminary's Ahnfeldt Medallion. The Ahnfeldt Medallion is named after Alfred Nelson Ahnfeldt, who was in the first class of the Covenant's school started in 1891 in Minneapolis. The school later relocated to Chicago and became North Park. Ahnfeldt went on to become a professor of languages and homiletics.

Eix, whose husband Marc is an associate pastor at North Park Covenant Church, is the granddaughter of former seminary president and dean Donald Frisk. Eix has taught at Maine West High School in Des Plaines, Illinois while finishing a Master of Arts in Theological Studies.

A total of 28 graduates received degrees. Ethel Davis of Community Covenant Church in Calumet Park, Illinois, received the first Master of Arts in Christian Ministry degree ever at NPTS. James Sandberg (Trinity Covenant Church in Oak Lawn, Illinois) and Sung Min Yeo (Korean Central Covenant Church in Northbrook, Illinois) earned Doctor of Ministry in Preaching degrees. Among the 16 receiving Master of Divinity degrees were high honor students Tina Herrin and Linda Marinkov Forbes and honor students Lindsay Armfield, Matthew Lundgren, John Madvig, Jonathan Meyer, Judy Howard Peterson and Scott Sagle.

So Jeong Kim and Mary Kirkham earned high honors in the Master of Arts in Christian Education program while Jennifer Dunahoo graduated with honors. Honorary Doctor of Divinity degrees were given to longtime NPTS spiritual director Jane K. Koonce and noted British scholar, writer, pastor and theologian Geoffrey Wainwright.
