Covenanter Honored for Perfect SAT Score

CHICAGO, IL (May 7, 2001) - Nobody's perfect, but when it comes to national academic tests Elizabeth Dorman may be as perfect as it gets.

Dorman scored a perfect score of 1,600 on the nationally known Standard Achievement Test (SAT) college entrance exam, a feat that impressed a 36-member local education awards panel. Dorman, who attends Grace Evangelical Covenant Church in Chicago was recently named to the Chicago Tribune's Illinois High School All-State Academic Team.

The 18-year-old Dorman is home schooled by parents Donald and Susan and supplements her education by participating in a variety of Chicago Park District activities, including swimming and water polo. She also participates heavily in church youth group activities, plays the piano, participates in gymnastics and spells well enough to have won three consecutive Chicago City Spelling Bee competitions.

According to a recent news report, Dorman spends about 10 hours, six days a week on school work, either under the tutelage of her parents or through classes on the Internet. She has already earned A's in chemistry and calculus courses at the University of Illinois-Chicago and plans to study molecular biology at California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
