North Park Makes Strong Showing in Field and Track Event
CHICAGO, IL (May 6, 2001) - Lacretia Carroll and Darlene Duncan of North Park University were among the top performers in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin track and field meet held at North Park's new facility May 4-5.
Carroll won the 400-meter run in 56.90, qualifying provisionally for the NCAA Division III track and field championships at Millikin University later this month. She edged Carthage's Latrice Powell (57.33). Carroll also placed second in the 200 with a time of 26.90 and placed second in the triple jump to help North Park place seventh in the team standings.
Duncan was second in the 3,200 with a clocking of 10:25.73, losing to Elmhurst's Kathleen Brice (10:18.50). Duncan was also third in the 1,500, won by Brice. High jumper Carrie Swenson contributed points by tying for fifth in her event.
In the men's competition, North Park's Travis Giles took the long jump and was seventh in the triple jump as the Vikings placed eighth in the team standings. Teammates Randle Williams (fourth in the 100, seventh in the 200), Guierrmo Mejia (eighth in the shot put) and Jon Mauldin (eighth in the 110-meter high hurdles) also contributed points for the Vikings.
