Lecture to Address Future of Christianity in the Middle East
CHICAGO, IL (April 23, 2001) - His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, the 117th Pope of Alexandria and the See of St. Mark in the World, will speak on "The Future of Christianity in the Middle East" during a visit to North Park University April 30.The 7:30 p.m. lecture, sponsored by North Park's Center for Middle Eastern Studies, will take place at Anderson Chapel, 3225 West Foster Avenue. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
His Holiness Pope Shenouda III will be in Chicago April 28 to May 2 to consecrate two churches in the greater metropolitan Chicago area. He heads the Coptic Church, which is the Egyptian Orthodox Christian Church and the biggest congregation in the Middle East.
He was honored in 1978 by the Browning Institute as the best Christian preacher in the world. He has authored more than 100 books and during the past two decades has served as editor-in-chief of the Coptic Church's magazine El-Keraza.
In November 2000, His Holiness Pope Shenouda III was awarded the UNESCO award for Compassion and Nonviolence for his work to improve relations between Christians and Muslims in Egypt.
