Atlanta Men's Retreat Draws 100-Plus Participants
ATLANTA, GA (March 27, 2001) - More than 100 men participated in the first-ever men's retreat sponsored recently by the Southeast Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The event was the product of a year of planning, according to Richard Berry, conference director of urban outreach expansion. Participants came from as far away as Mississippi, North Carolina, Miami and many other cities throughout a large geographic area. "It was perhaps the most diverse group the conference has seen to date," Berry said.
Three conference pastors from diverse backgrounds planned the retreat and served as main speakers. They are Jeffrey Burton, Faith Covenant Church in St. Petersburg, Florida; Ed Carey, Palmetto Community Covenant Church in Miami, Florida; and Marcus B. Putnam, Trinity Church in Greensboro, North Carolina. "People who attended are still talking about how evident it was that the retreat was orchestrated by the Holy Spirit," Berry said.
Attention has already shifted to next year's retreat planning. "We are grateful for the leadership of Supt. Kurt Miericke who saw the need to bring our men together," Berry said.
