Minnehaha Takes Third in Class AA Contest
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (March 19, 2001) - Minnehaha Academy used 20 points by Allison Aubuchon to defeat Winona-Cotter in the Class AA girls high school basketball third-place game Saturday at the Sports Center, completing a 26-7 season.Minnehaha, which is sponsored by the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church, also got 16 points from Lee Durant and 13 from Annicka Boyd. The Redhawks had dropped a 63-57 decision to eventual state Class AA runner-up New London-Spicer in the semi-finals a day earlier despite 19 points by Boyd and 13 points, 15 rebounds by Megan Foy.
Durant, a junior, led coach Lance Johnson's team in scoring by averaging 16 points per contest. She has scored more than 1,000 points in her career. Aubuchon, the team's second leading scorer, had 21 points in a 73-49 state quarterfinal win over Belle Plaine March 13.
Athletics has always been an integral part of Minnehaha's overall program, with a soccer program recognized in Minnesota and basketball bringing the school many positive results. The football program got a boost last fall from running back Keith Jackson, who rushed for a school-record 310 yards in one game and earned All-State mention. He recently earned a full athletic scholarship to Northern Iowa University in Cedar Falls.
