Women Vikings Defeat Elmhurst College
ELMHURST, IL (February 26, 2001) - By Craig Pinley
Senior Julia Kyte won't be playing any more college basketball after this past weekend's activities, but one thing is certain - she'll have plenty to remember.
Kyte (accompanying photo) scored a season-high 22 points and had six steals at North Park University (NPU) beat Elmhurst College 62-50 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) road game last Wednesday. Kyte made 5-of-7 shots from 3-point range as the Vikings moved to 12-11, 6-7 in the CCIW.
Kyte and Annie Musser were honored Saturday on Senior Day as North Park hosted Illinois Wesleyan University. Musser is injured and ends her season ranked fourth on the NPU career assist list with 336, so Kyte was the lone senior on the court.
A native of Mission, British Columbia, Kyte has had much to smile about at NPU since arriving from Canada. She entered Saturday's game ranked second in career free throw percentage (.753), fifth in steals (182), 12th in assists (212) and 13th in scoring (921).
Kyte has scored at least 185 points in each of her four seasons for the Vikings. She's grabbed nearly 500 rebounds in her career as well, proving to be one of the most versatile players in school history.
Junior Andrea Mendyk of Chicago, Illinois, is also moving up on the NPU career lists. She had 14 points against Elmhurst to giver her 920 career points, just behind Kyte. She is third in career free throw percentage (.749) and sixth in steals (136).
