Alaska Christian College Finds New Home
SOLDOTNA, AK (February 20, 2001) - Alaska Christian College (ACC) hopes it has found a home, thanks to a tentative agreement between the college and the State of Alaska.
A $350,000 offer for the purchase of 11 acres of land and a building has been accepted by Central Peninsula Counseling Services, the property owner, according to Keith Hamilton, ACC founding president. The college has until April 1 to finalize all of the details. (See accompanying photo for photo of new facility).
Assisting in the negotiations was Rob Hall of the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The site is located on the Kenai Peninsula, about three hours south of Anchorage by vehicle (20 minutes by plane). The property includes a 7,300-square-foot home that will include five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a classroom, a library, two kitchens and a solarium and indoor swimming pool.
"The accessibility is awesome for us," said Hamilton. "The campus is between Kenai and Soldotna in the borough next to Kenai Community College. Soldotna is known for its king salmon fishing and has other tourist attractions, which could allow us to have visiting groups and individuals during the summer months."
Hamilton said the new facility needs to be remodeled to accommodate 15 students for this fall's classes. A capital drive is under way to raise $100,000 to complete a dormitory to house another 15 students. Hamilton is counting on volunteer work groups to provide the assistance needed to complete much o the work.
The college is searching for an academic dean. Other faculty needs are being met - appointments will be announced as soon as details are completed.
The mission of the college, which is sponsored by the Evangelical Covenant Church of Alaska (ECCAK), is to provide students with whole-life discipleship.
