New Church to Conduct 'Preview' Service
NORTH LAKE COUNTY, IL (January 28, 2001) - Cornerstone Covenant Church will host its first public worship service February 4 after receiving support from five area Covenant churches. The 10 a.m. preview service for Cornerstone Covenant will be held at the Laremont School, 18160 W. Gages Lake Road, in Gages Lake. The co-pastors are Carl and Christine Franzon, who previously served as associate pastors for prayer and evangelism and children's ministry and adult education at Redeemer Covenant Church in Carrollton, Texas.
There currently are about 10 families in the church's core group, including young couples and retirees. The group has been meeting weekly since December for a time of Bible study, planning and sharing.
"It's a growing area with lots of young families moving," said Carl Franzon who grew up in Sawyer, Michigan, and attended Harbert Community Church in Harbert, Michigan. "There are a number of churches in the area, but there are still many (individuals) who are unreached (for Christ)."
Cornerstone Covenant Church is located in North Lake County, an hour from Chicago. The new church is being supported in part by Libertyville Covenant, Northbrook Covenant, Winnetka Covenant, Glenview Covenant and Edgebrook Covenant, all Chicago-area churches.
"We feel like God is calling us to gather people who are seeking to live in the presence of God every single day," said Christine Franzon. "It's a lifestyle choice, whether you're working at McDonalds or walking down the street. And it's commonly held in our core group that we want people to live in Jesus' name, in whatever they do and say."
